Fitting guides

The Your® Liner fitting workflow for certified prosthetists — from the first appointment to reimbursement. Regulatory details live in the regulatory notes (PDF).

1 — Prepare the appointment

Print the memo sheet (PDF) — one page that captures everything the order form will ask for: patient details, amputation level and activity, control measurements, silicone and suspension choices, thickness needs and the textile design.

  • Silicone type: Relax (soft), Active (medium) or Dynamic (harder). For high mechanical stress — high activity, high body weight, short limb — prefer Dynamic. Ask your MotionTech representative for the hardness pad set.
  • Control measurements: plan where you will measure, and draw the measurement heights directly on the limb so they are visible in the scan.
2 — Scan

Any scanner works if it outputs .stl, .ply or .obj — colour scans preferred, so drawn indications stay visible.

  • Position, by preference: standing (soft tissues hang down, limits pistoning) → sitting on a high support → scan of an unrectified plaster positive.
  • Three principles: don’t push up the soft tissues; the scanned shape should match the shape at donning; keep the patient comfortable so they stay still.
  • BK flexion: scan (and measure) at the flexion angle the liner should have — about 20° pre-flexion recommended, never more than 40°.
  • Upload raw: no smoothing, no hole-filling — our designers rework the model under our quality standards, which keeps the satisfaction warranty simple.
  • Take videos of the soft tissues moving, and note anything unusual in your own words.

3 — Configure & order
  • Order types: new order, copy order (by serial number, with tweaks), follow-up order, warranty claim.
  • Thickness: every liner starts from the default profile for the amputation level and silicone; add pads or fill scars and concavities by drawing zones. Limits: 2.5 mm minimum (3 mm for Relax), 25 mm maximum.
  • Suspension: distal locking (M10/M6), silicone rings below knee level (rotation control or sleeve-less vacuum) or above knee level (liner–sleeve seal) — combinable.
  • Pear-shaped limbs: declare it on the order form’s first page and choose the socket type — compensation is designed in, not drawn as zones. When donning strength is a concern, request a donning & doffing validation before printing.
  • Unsure about the model? Ask for a 3D-model validation in the order comments and inspect the design before it prints.

4 — Fit & check

At delivery, walk the patient through donning (see the patient guides) and verify together:

  • The alignment line sits as designed («Posterior» back / «Medial» inside) and the thicker zones cover the intended areas.
  • No wrinkles or air pockets between limb, liner — and sleeve, if used (horizontal line at joint middle).
  • The patient releases vertical tension every ~5 cm while rolling on — especially with compensated liners, where longitudinal stretch displaces the designed thicknesses.
  • A few steps in a safe area confirm suspension before the patient leaves.

If a first liner doesn’t fit: document with photos, videos and measurements, and file a warranty claim — the satisfaction warranty covers replacement.

5 — Document for reimbursement

Clinical one-pagers per indication support the coverage conversation with insurers:

Every indication also has a walkthrough on the use-case pages; reports for the remaining indications are being finalised.

Before the patient goes home

  • Hand over the Instructions for Use (PDF) and walk through the care routine (daily cleaning, weekly disinfection, drying fabric-side out).
  • Confirm the patient can don and doff independently, releasing tension as trained.
  • Agree the wear-in schedule and the maximum 8 hours in a row rule.
  • Recommend replacement after 6 months at the latest — function, safety and hygiene.
